I got this book yesterday in the mail from Amazon. Let me say.. The Attention to Detail of how this was put together, the discussion of gear, the ceremony, the reception, the process.. It's INVALUABLE. I'm SLOWLY reading every word so I can digest it. I will be following up on this review once I finish. But so far I'm very happy with the purchase.

Well, I read and much enjoyed volume one by this author so I am eagerly looking forward to reading his second volume. From the table of contents looks like a lot involves preparation skills in order to tell the wedding story. First time I’ve seen a chapter called an optional read :-) May be optional but looks absolutely critical for wedding photography: involves how to clean your sensor, having a equipment checklist, and, among other things, syncing all of the cameras you’ll be using. For example, you don’t want different white balances or picture styles among the photographs. I never would have thought of that! He also discusses the when and how of hiring an assistant. I bet that would be more helpful than we can even imagine on a wedding shoot. The author says it is not an option (unlike the first chapter :-), but is crucial to success. He discusses one instance in which not having an assistant could mean no photos for the unhappy couple! He posits the example where a photographer sprained her ankle and was completely incapacitated for the rest of that day. Valenzuela is right-what in the world do you do then? You need an assistant.The author uses several case studies in teaching us how to prepare the bride and groom. I love that he refers to certain people in the wedding as Emotionally Valuable Persons (EVP)! For example, the groom‘s father. He places his assistant in front of the subject of the photo to give direction while he stands to the side taking the actual photograph. Valenzuela tells us we get more candid shots when the photographer is out of the direct view of the subject and I bet he’s right. Along the way he mentions a tip that I use in my family shots, too. That when you’re photographing candid shots look for reactions. I find I get the best pics that way. He discusses this again in the section on group photos-have people react to each other or get candid shots of it when you’re photographing the group.He spends much of an entire chapter on what kind of backgrounds to use, when and why. For example, do you use a monochromatic background or a pattern background? I love that he discusses that because I can’t say that I’ve ever seen this talked about in a wedding photography book before. In his section on how to photograph the wedding party he gives a list of clichéd poses that we should avoid - some of those poses I have seen among my family‘s wedding photos :-), including pics I took. He next describes the four types of wedding party group photos, which I found entertaining and helpful. He does suggest that you always take the traditional photos first because, whether they know it or not, the bride and groom will want those. Then you can choose among the other three categories. His many photographic illustrations of the group photos I found very instructive.In a section on photographing the bride and groom he talks about “individualized effective stimuli“. Well, a mouthful! But what he means is that the photographer needs to set the mood. For example, if you want lots of positive energy, then you need to put that energy out there. He says this section is important and I agree. Not just for weddings, either. I much enjoyed his section on unaware portraits because, in a wedding I was photographer at, the best group shots I got were when people forgot I was shooting.And then we come to the final part of the wedding: the reception. The photographer says that one of the most important things to do is to please the wedding coordinator :-) That’s because the wedding coordinator often recommends which photographer to use!In conclusion, the second volume was well worth writing and certainly worth my reading. The author covered a lot about preparation and strategies in this volume and together the two volumes are probably all you need to shoot a wedding in the best way possible.

I found this book worthwhile, but not what I would call 'the perfect solution". I am over 70 and have spent my life living frugally, continually saving and investing for the future and retirement. I have been quite successful at growing net worth, while living comfortably. I truly believe a key component is learning who you are and understanding how you are best suited to reach your goals. I personally think this book is too caught up in looking at every penny. I think each penny is important, but have focused on being sure there is constant savings. I don't expect my approach to work for everyone, but I want to emphasize that there can be many paths to reach the same goals. I suggest reading a wide variety of approaches that focus on saving and investing for the long haul. I have made small changes along the way when trying new things. In the end I have found that success came with simplicity. Look for the big picture in the book and any other. Growing wealth is like growing a big tree, strong trees grow big over a long time.

Basic principles of this book are decent, however, the principles are not gold and it could be summed up well in 50 pages or less...not the redundant, ranting 300 page book it is.First 80 pages of the book are worthless and torture mostly focusing on the consumerism/doomed/horrible smog-infested society we live in, last two chapters most useful and can be read in a bookstore.I did not like many examples given; it seemed to focus on divorce excessively with ~ 80% of case report examples of "FI-ers" being divorced which I found rather odd and unnecessary to mention.Take home points of this book: Spend less than you earn, save, document every penny you spend, become a minimalist and only purchase things you need, the less you need the more fulfilled you will be, the less you will work, etc.Things to consider:1) The "FIer" lifestyle is not for everyone- I equate an "FIer" to the tiny home movement in principle.2) Book recommends that bonds should be the mainstay and the only thing in your portfolio. I strongly would discourage this. "Safe" bonds which I pretty much consider anything that that is not a junk bond or preferred stock bond, are not hitting the high yields that Joe Dominguez saw in his day and on many years aren't comparing to rises in inflation. While you can never predict the stock market, when looking at time tables- it always goes up. Traditionally, stock markets rise while bond yields go down some and visa versa. The best way for security and safety is proper allocation to each of these modalities: bonds (treasury bonds are great as mentioned in the book because you aren't charged state taxes, however, what the book fails to remind you of is that federal taxes are still fair game) and diversified stock portfolio most safely done by investing in mutual index funds with low fees (e.g. Vanguard). The older you are, for safety, the more bonds you should have in case the stock market plummets during your retirement years. For conservatives a 60% mutual funds and 40% bonds is recommended. For a retirement person, 20% stocks and 80% bonds should be considered. When you have all your eggs in one basket, you lose that safety net.3) Other things I disagree with in this book- everyone should have health insurance, you should not forgo this to "save" money; sure buy the less comprehensive plan if you are healthy and pay less and have a higher deductible but you are gambling when you forgo it all together.4) They also suggest in this book "rolling-over" your 401k and 403b accounts to bonds; however, these are pre-taxed dollars and you will likely get slammed- most retirement plans now give options to the "risk" or rather stock/bond ratio you desire. I would more likely suggest rolling money to Roth IRAs (post-tax and therefore tax free with capital gains) or just leave your nest egg to compound growth where they are at.Now I am ranting. Cheers.

The first 8 chapters of the book are great, chapter 9 should just be deleted. The original book recommended putting 100% in Treasuries. Since that is clearly a terrible idea now, the book grudgingly recommends index funds.The thing that drives me nuts is the book says that it took 25 years for the stock market to recover from the Great Depression. This is a lie, when you account for dividends and deflation it took 4.5 years to recover if you put a lump sum in at the absolute peak.If you’re going to try and scare people at least be honest. Also if you’re going to pretend that 100% treasuries was a great idea in the 80s at least mention that a 60/40 stock bond blend would have blown it out of the water.

As a Certified Financial Planner professional with over ten years of experience helping clients with retirement planning, I'm sincerely impressed by this book, and have to say that this is a powerful resource for anyone that is seriously interested in becoming Financially Independent (FI). My only feedback is that the book, doesn't emphasize enough, how difficult it is, when you have a spouse or life partner, to change deeply rooted financial money scripts and behaviors. That said, if you (and your life partner) are dedicated to Financial Independence, then this read, is in my professional opinion, a very worthy investment of "life energy" in deed. The content is good, but it is written as if someone just dictated a seminar that lasted a week. It is full of "take Mary for example, she did blah blah blah and blah blah happened" followed by 3 more examples. Yea, I get it. I got it before the example and now I am just annoyed skimming past the examples thinking about the trees that were killed for no reason. Overall, there is some good content in the book, but it could have been cut down 25% easily. After reading the first half of the book I learned to just skip over the examples and skim some of the paragraphs to keep my sanity to make it through to the end

This is the perfect finance book for someone who is now starting out and really for anyone that is trying to get a different perspective on money and how they handle it.However there are some flaws with it number one being that I don’t believe that financial independence or the crossover point as it is called in the book is that easy to maintain once it is reached as several of the examples in the book spoke of people having to readjust their lifestyle when life changed which is something that we all know will happen.Overall however I think tracking your money, seeing your money as your life energy, tracking your income versus expenses for a long period of time and using the three questions to see if you’re getting the best value both emotionally and in line with your values is excellent advice so I would recommend this book to anyone looking to improve their relationship with money.

This book deserves five stars because it is a perfect baseball uniform book. Todd Radom has all the depth of knowledge you need to discuss this history. But he writes as a fan and child of the 70s. He discusses why the colorful uniforms of the 70s developed, how the trend expanded and why they ultimately went away. He is honest rather than nostalgic about the lack of color in the iconic uniforms of the 50s and carries the narrative beyond the 90s. His love of the crazy double knit era is clear. The thing that puts this book into the five star range though is that he chronicles when good teams make bad decisions (I'm looking at you Pirates Red uniform) and has an entire chapter on the "Turn ahead the clock night" of the late 90s. This is legendary among uni-fans. Radom appreciate the zany creativity of the idea and provides beautiful pictures. In fact the whole book is beautiful, a work of art in and of itself. If you love baseball uniforms or pine for the sans-a-belt pants and pullover shirts of the 70, this is a must have.

Although it had some redeeming qualities, it was disappointing. My main bone of contention was with the photos and illustrations. To begin with, they were not placed near the text on them and next they were insufficient. Many uniforms were discussed in the text that were not shown either by photo or illustration. Often I found myself reading text about a certain uniform but never was shown an image of it. Many sounded very interesting. Granted, the author could not be expected to show every memorable uniform, but at least show the ones in the text. This is theoretically a visual book so visuals should be abundant. Having to go online to look up many of the uniforms described was annoying and should have been unnecessary. I saw the author in High Heat on MLB network and it whetted my appetite for the book. As I said, disappointing.

Ever get the feeling that a book was written especially for you?I was looking forward to this since I heard about it, having owned two of the jerseys feature in the inside covers: Astros and brown Padres. I also lived in Philly when the team changed jerseys, logos and stadiums in 1970. Too bad the winning didn't accompany them in those days.Only wish Winning Ugly had more pages, photos and illustrations to enjoy. Wonderful use of cultural references (Nigel, DeLorean, Cookie Puss) to add color to an already heavily saturated story. I’d say Todd Radom is uniquely qualified for this creation. If you love baseball history combined with the visual aspect, be sure to check out Todd's work online. Top drawer designer, master of typography, ultimate baseball fan.

Good for kids or sports enthusiasts . My husband loves this, he really loves the history of sports uniforms and logos so gets a kick out of the photos in this book. My 11-year-old is equally fascinated by the book.

I got this for my husband. The added bonus was it kept my two young grandsons entertained for hours!

Bought this for my husband for Father's Day and he absolutely loves it!! He loves all things baseball and history and this book really delivered on both! He had fun showing me and the kids the pictures!

My 8 year old needed to do a project for school and we chose Cleopatea. I thought it was nice to actually own the nonfiction book do we got this one. She enjoyed it immensely. Didn’t even notice the nude pictures do that wasn’t an issue for us.

This book was informative and well written. I have used it in ESL education. The students learn the tragic story of Cleopatra and how her life intertwined with two of the most powerful leaders of Rome. It's a great starting point for discussions about the ancient world.

Great book for those that are interested in learning more about Cleopatra. Purchased for a gift for my daughter for Christmas and she has read it many times and loves sharing her new knowledge with us. Very pleased.

Our 7 year old is SUPER into ancient Egypt history and this is a good one on Cleopatra. Very age appropriate (sometimes hard to find regarding ancient Egypt history!) Fun to learn together!

I have purchased all the National Geographic readers for my classroom library. My students love these informational texts. Unfortunately, this text will not be going into my classroom library as it is, because there are two pictures where a women's breast is exposed and I can just imagine student's reactions to this. I will however, drawn on these women's tops so that this book is appropriate for my class.

My daughter loved this book. She is in an Egyptian phase right now and reading all she can. This was written well for her age, 8, and gave great facts which she retains!!

It was fine for what we needed; a school project. That's all I really need to say. Didn't really want to post, but couldn't get out of it.
