I admire Dave Asprey’s journey as a writer—starting with The Bulletproof Diet, then Head Strong, and now shifting gears towards a more holistic piece, Game Changers. I've just finished reading it and, in fact, was my favorite one. That’s why I am happy to share some thoughts before you commit to the book itself. It's written in a more conversational tone—taking a closer look at life purpose, happiness, and spirituality. He by no means forgets to include worthwhile advices on physical and mental performances. Simply put, the book is a compilation of powerful recommendations he distilled from over 450 conversations/interviews with accomplished guests. This is quite an intimate book, representing essential values Asprey has assimilated throughout his experiences. Although I haven’t listened to more than 100 of his interviews, I could feel that the present book was carefully written—he took the time and energy to document something precious.Asprey divides the book into 3 main parts—smarter, faster, happier—where each part is broken down into chapters filled with a total of 46 “laws”. One of the highlights is that at the end of each “law” we find a honest/feasible action plan to implement the advice, as well as recommended readings and podcast episodes for further research. Before sharing thoughts about the content itself, I just wanted to mention I could draw a direct comparison between Tim Ferris’s Tools of Titans and Game Changers. They both compiled hundreds of interviews into a book, and even though Tim Ferris and Dave Asprey have similar interests such as high-performance, health, business, spiritualism, science, happiness, and self-improvement, there are differences on how the information is laid out throughout the chapters. Ferris summarizes key takeaways from each interviewee, one-by-one. Asprey, however, distills the information in a broader and more interconnected perspective after running his “statistical analysis”. That said, Tools of Titans and Game Changers complement each other positively. Now let me share with you some pieces of advice I took note to further reflect and explore as I get the chance to read the book again—but on a slower pace next. The “laws” are in order of appearance.[Law 1] To focus on what matters most by saying “no” more often. Knowing what matters the most brings clarity, making it easy to take decisions and focus our attention and energy exclusively. As a regression, I could connect this “law” with another valuable book called “Essentialism” by Greg McKeown.[Law 3] Words are powerful. We should be mindful by choosing truthful words to build trust and break free from our own limitations. Asprey explains how certain words can be detrimental to us. He suggests us to pay attention to often used words that make us weak—sharing also techniques to avoid them.[Law 8] Asprey encourages us to access altered states by taking advantage of valuable tools we have these days, ranging from silent meditation retreats all the way to trusted ayahuasca experiences in the Amazon.[Law 10] We must learn to confront our irrational fear of criticism and failure. Negative emotions are rooted in fear, while positive ones are rooted in trust. When we manage to spend more time in the positive states, a sense of comfort surrounds us. Asprey shares tips on how to dissolve expectations and attachments that may be holding us back.[Law 12] Passion and purpose are key to happiness. Finding the things we care about and devote time and energy will certainly pay off in the long run. As Asprey puts: “Every idea that doesn’t work is simply a stepping-stone to a bigger success. Success comes when you are still curious and still learning.”[Law 20] Striving for quality sleep is better than more sleep. Fascinating studies are presented to help us sleep thoroughly. I enjoyed reading about wild animals patterns, that they prefer sleeping on the hard ground with their heads slightly uphill. It seems that maintaining our heads slightly above our hearts while sleeping may be a good idea to avoid the increase of pressure in the brain due to the blood flow circulation under the effects of gravity. Reading about sleep made me think about an important and personally favorite book called “Why We Sleep” by Matthew Walker.[Law 22] Learning to move our bodies the right way is a must for long-term health. I sincerely appreciate this point because we often forget to prioritize this aspect due to high demands we face at work. Going back to the basics and getting the right posture and movement patterns will certainly improve the quality of our lives. Asprey shares good recommendations and I’ve used some of them—after listening to his podcasts—in tandem with my favorite one. GMB [www.gmb.io] is formed by a small but knowledgeable group of experts in physical therapy, gymnastics, martial arts, and human movement that have been developing courses and tutorials to help us move with more autonomy. Both of GMB’s training programs, the Elements and the Vitamin, have helped me immensely with rock climbing performance. Another program that seems to be terrific but I haven’t engaged as much is MovNat [www.movnat.com].[Law 25] This is a profound topic on meaningful food consumption. I was touched by Cynthia Garcia’s story on how she overcame her struggles through a combination of dietary changes with psychological and spiritual work. The message here is that emotional eating is sadly entrenched in our culture that we aren’t aware of the effects. We learn tips that signal excess of emotional eating.[Law 26] Here we find the solution to the previous “law”—which is about eating real food, about paying attention to what our relatives at generations ago used to eat, about eating genuinely according to our true nature and needs. This topic stands alone as a concise diet guide.[Law 33] Striving for happier habits improves our creativity, productivity, relationships, and even the odds to earn more money. But besides that, one of his interviewees, Vishen Lakhiani, got my attention. He says we should focus on “end goals” described as: [1] the things we want to experience in life, [2] ways in which we want to grow a as human being, and [3] ways in which we want to contribute to the world.[Law 35] Seeking out social interaction through a supportive community brings positive impacts in many aspects. Dr. Zak explains the role of oxytocin, a hormone released during social bounding. It’s intriguing to know how this hormone works—on a feedback loop—amplifying empathy throughout human connections.[Law 39] Here we learn about the importance of proper breathing. Wim Hof is a pioneer of extremely cold temperature exposure through breathing techniques. Even though I've taken cold showers 2 times a week since 2016 and learned to prefer lukewarm showers over hot ones on the other days, I've been delaying to test Hof's exercises since I first heard about his breathing techniques.[Law 41] One of my favorite excerpts of the book is as follows: “Spend more time outdoors. See trees. Smell plants. Taste real food. Sweat in the sun. Shiver when it’s cold. Give your nervous system a taste of the environment it evolved in so you can reap the returns as your biology changes to increase your performance.”[Law 45] The power of forgiveness can’t be beat. Asprey encourages us to forgive with the same intensity we bring our mission in life in order to access new levels of energy and happiness. This “law” was probably my favorite one—insights that I hope to carry for life.I hope this review helps you. Even if you have listened to most of Asprey's interviews, this book is a convenient piece to revisit the information in a well-documented version. Game Changers has the potential to impact our lives positively in many forms. After all, it’s about taking the time to discover our own priorities, then finding the right action plan at the end of each “law” to create better habits or boost our performances over time.Take good care,Haical

This book advocates the responsible use of pyschotropic drugs to bring enlightenment and a higher functioning brain. While I totally agree with everyone’s right to any and all nootropics or just plain recreational drugs, I don’t believe it’s responsible advocate it as a method for life hacking. Personally, I want to know how to live my best life in my current reality not create an alter-reality to live in within myself. I find it HIGHLY irresponsible. You can’t microdose LSD any more than you can eat one Lay’s potato chip. Even if you could, that’s not living our current reality at its fullest potential but rather just creating an altered reality. That’s not what I wanted from this book. If that’s what you’re looking for then by all means, dive in. I find that one of the biggest problem’s we are facing that is causing an epidemic of depression, anxiety, loss of focus is exactly that, people have a desire to escape rather than connect. I get it. Connecting is hard and a microdose of LSD would probably make us feel like it was easier. I prefer my hacking to involve more grounded methods, which he did offer a few but you can tell from his writing what he really subscribes to the most.I will skim the rest of the book but it is not organized in a manner to quickly grasp points. The chapter layouts are odd. There is a summary for sections, if you can find them. I’m returning it and asking for my money back. I will likely stop buying his over-priced products as well. He’s just not my kind of guru anymore.

I preordered this book in September, and was able to read ALL of it today :). I had the opportunity to meet Dave Asprey in Chicago for a biohacker meet-up, and this man definitely practices what he preaches. He was one of the nicest, most genuine guys I’ve met. He truly cares about helping others live their best life. The information in this book is priceless, and is a must read for anyone wanting to make their life more kick ass!I became a fan after reading the Bulletproof Diet. I suffered a spinal cord injury from a back surgery, and his information has helped me manage the effects of that surgery to the point I no longer take medication, and I feel better than I ever have — minus the partial paralysis lol.You won’t regret buying this book...

This book absolutely changed my mindset. It condenses the best advice from tons of experts. When you see all the recommended books you realize that what you’re getting in one book is really the summary of 20+ other books, saving you tons of time. I read it on the kindle. It does ask you to write stuff down which you can’t do on the kindle. So if that bothers you then I would get a physical copy of the book.

Awesome book. I’ve been listening to Dave asprey podcast for years dude is a beast. I’ve also read his book head strong and the bulletproof diet. Two good books. This book is so good on so many levels. It breaks down the everyday routines of people. What they do. What they eat. How much they value sleep and recovery time. I listen to Dave religiously and I’ve applied a lot of his diet and brain hacks with remarkable results. I highly recommend this book to anyone. I left so much from mediation to yoga to mentors. It’s well written book also. Dave is becoming quite the writer and it laid out good to.

As a longtime fan of Dave Asprey and listener to the Bulletproof Radio podcast I cannot recommend this book enough! It eloquently and concisely compiles key lessons from the entirety of the BP Radio catalog into easily retained and understood laws to live by whether you are struggling with sleep, focus, relationships, diet, memory, weight-loss, business, love or sex, its all here and is told from a place of deep gratitude, the thing I appreciate most about Mr Asprey and the content he produces, see what I did there?

Very interesting and at times amusing. He takes biohacking to the 10th degree. I was happy I got it with audible made for easier reading. He got so many people to offer ideas, I really enjoyed it

As a youth group leader, I try to give my children the opportunity to have a choice in the materials we work on together. At the beginning of this year, I gave them several different books to choose from and they decided on Keeper of the Light. I was a little reticent to dive into this book because of the one very negative review and, out of caution, chose to order a copy for myself to preview first. I felt very comfortable letting them read it because, having read Father Arseny last year, the kids wanted something a little easier to read. Additionally, we have talked repeatedly about the humanity of our blessed Saints and how their imperfections give us hope that we might all have a chance to grow and emulate them in our own lives. Before reading this book, I read the negative review to the group out loud and asked them to reflect on their thoughts. They echoed the sentiment that Saints are people- win! Everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion, and I do not wish to criticize the other reviewer, just to bring to this forum the perspective of my group of little "Saints in progress." Below are their reviews of this book in their own words. I also asked each of them to reflect on one overall "takeaway" from the book. Enjoy...Ginny Seeley, Four Evangelists Youth Group Leader(1) Matt's Review (14 Year old boy from Four Evangelists Orthodox Church Youth Group- Maryland)"Keeper of the Light was a great book. I am not a big book reader but I could not put this book down. It made me understand how lucky I am to be in a place where I would not get in trouble for my religion. I would rate this book a 9 out of 10. The lesson that I took away from this book is to be patient."(2) Connor's Review (15 Year old boy from Four Evangelists Orthodox Church Youth Group- Maryland)"After reading this book in my Youth Group, I feel that the simple language is great for kids and the book does not go into gruesome detail. It does a good job talking about a Saint, while also maintaining their humanity. Saints are people and make mistakes and have bad days. The book describes these traits well and, while it could go into more detail during saintly parts, it is easy to understand. The lesson I took away from this book is that God never lies."(3) Logan's Review (13 Year old Girl from Four Evangelists Orthodox Church Youth Group- Maryland)"I read this book in my Church Youth Group. After reading the very negative review, I wasn't eager to read this book. However, if you let that review influence your decision to read this book, you've made a mistake. This was an amazing book. It didn't paint St. Macrina as evil, rather as human. She was a saint because she was good, despite challenges. If it was easy, then we would all be saints. Overall, I loved the book. The lesson I took away from this book was that you should always trust in God."(4) Teddy's Review (13 Year old boy from Four Evangelists Orthodox Church Youth Group- Maryland)"I think that St. Macrina was a great book. The author wrote the book well and made up all the unknown parts of her life in a good way. She accurately depicts the saint and shows God's love through her in a simple way. This book can be read by anyone and it talks about a relatively unknown person. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to read it and I'll be other readers will like it, too. The lesson I took away from this book is that God is always with you."(5) Addy's Review (11 year old girl from Four Evangelists Orthodox Church Youth Group- Maryland)"I think that this book was one of the best Christian books I have read. In the beginning of the book, it was very wild. I feel bad for Mus when he had to be just taken out from his home because he was Christina. I read this book in my Youth Group. St. Macrina is a great Saint. The lesson I took away from this book is to be grateful."(6) Vasili's Review (11 Year old boy from Four Evangelists Orthodox Church Youth Group- Maryland)"I can understand peoples' opinions about the book making St. Macrina look spoiled; but, in my opinion, it made her feel more human and reinforced the idea that the saints were just like all of us and we can be like them. I give it a 9.47 out of 10. The lesson I took away from this book is that there is always hope."

I enjoyed this book and learned a lot from it. I am a Christian but I am not Orthodox. I would recommend to someone looking for a good book, and it is especially good for young adults, I think.

Great book which will be used with a church school class to teach the importance of God's holy ones. Highly recommended.

I am constantly on the look-out for great children's books. This book was not intended to be a children's book, but her life is written in story format. My daughter, who is seven loved it. It has sparked her interest in other lives of the saints.

this is a a horrible, awful, sick book, i would even say its evil , the lady who wrote it is a good story teller, she has talent , but she has used her talent to write evil and slanderous thing about a saint , Macrina's life happened so long ago, the author used her imagination to make a exciting story . problem is that she has made this saint in to a cursing , name calling, fit throwing, angry, desiring comforts , proud, caring about thing of this world a lot, having a temper, yeah before finishing this story to my children , i started editing what a read , and decided that even if we changed the names since this book seems slanderous to the saint , that reading about wicked made up people are not even edifying , which is a bummer , my husband said we should just throw it away , and wait for our other story book to come , the saint story books by Mary Fabyan Windeatt are good :) you should read them instead :) Saint Cathrerine of Siena is really good , and Saint Rose of Lima is realy good too , me and the children enjoyed them and there lives were holy and set apart , it is challenging to read about reall saints who loved the Lord , oh FATHER ARSENY is awesome too , his life , there is two books about him,my husband reads it to our whole family we enjoy it , my eight yr old lil girl says its fun and my buys who are 10 and 12 like it too my 12 yr old says its good and edifying and they really like it . so its ok if you dont get this awful book , there is good story books to read , that can challenge you to more holyness :) im excited about my other books we ordered by Mary Fabyan Windeatt , she has a whole series we are waiting for three new books to read yay :)

My 5- and 7-year olds loved this reading this book with me! One of the coolest aspects of this book is that the author makes it read like a novel, which is extremely engaging and hard to find in Saints stories, especially for kids. While much of the book is fiction, filling in the gaps of what is known of St. Macrina's life, the author does a good job of helping to bring the persecution to life, in a way that is likely to have happened. I would've liked to see a bit more detail into her prayer life and love of God, but I do appreciate how human and approachable Bev made this saint. Saints were people who struggle like we do. Please write a sequel(s) about her saintly grandchildren! My kids are requesting it!! Thank you :-)

I enjoyed Keeper of the Light. This is an exciting tale of a woman who went into hiding for her faith in the time of the late Roman Empire. Along with her husband and son, she struggled to remain undiscovered by soldiers who hunted Christians for sport. The author takes us through Macrina's life as she contends with not only being on the run, but also with having to give up so much for God. In the end she discovers her difficulties were not in vain. She has much to teach her grandchildren who are placed in her care and the heritage of their faith is carried on through them. The author has written an engaging historical tale that sweeps the reader along in the ups and downs of Macrina's life. The illustrations, historical notes and glossary all help complete the story. Although written for young adults, I would recommend it for all ages, and especially for all those interested in historical tales and faith experiences.

In 2017, the two authors undertook a project to visit all the then 2,563 stations on the national railway network in Great Britain. Starting in Penzance, they completed their epic railway adventure 15 weeks later in Wick. This project was entitled "All The Stations" and, as they travelled, they posted updates on various social media platforms (pun intended) and shared videos of their experiences on YouTube. A feature length documentary of their challenge is now available on YouTube. This book gives a taster of some of the highlights of their trip, and Vicki and Geoff hope that it will serve as an inspiration for readers to undertake their own railway adventure. The various chapters in the book cover such topics as some of the places visited; interesting facts about the stations; how the railway network is operated and maintained; some of the fascinating people they encountered; and the various different trains on which they travelled (of the 60 different classes of train that run on the network, they travelled on all bar one). I was pleased to see that my local station of Knaresborough gets an honourable mention. The final chapter gives suggestions for readers to undertake their own railway adventure by providing five different routes. Each route can be undertaken in one day, but the authors encourage people to get out and explore the different stations and surrounding areas, extending the trips over several days. However, far from being a book just for rail enthusiasts, and Vicki and Geoff go to great pains to point out that they are not trainspotters, this is a book that provides a fascinating snapshot of the communities and people that have been shaped by the railways, and will continue to do so as the network evolves. I enjoyed watching the videos posted during their adventure, which are characterised by the couple's infectious enthusiasm. I was pleased to see that this same enthusiasm for the subject is replicated in this book, which is very well illustrated with photographs taken during the trip. So, if you want to know how to rate stations on a quaint scale, or to find out why Vicki is so enthusiastic about Pacer trains (I suppose somebody has to be), then this is the book for you.
