Review

David Cay Johnston, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, Trump biographer, and author of It's Even Worse Than You Think:What the Trump Administration is Doing to America"Faking the News brilliantly and simply explains how Trump weaponizes language, diverting attention from issues to stir emotions like anger and resentment. These ten chapters will enable you to understand what makes his rhetoric, simplistic as it is, so effective in rousing supporters."ENDORSEMENT BY- Pamela Keith, attorney, former Judge Advocate for the United States Navy, and Democratic candidate for U.S. Representative of the 18th Congressional District of Florida"As a student of Rhetoric, and a candidate for political office, I have heard and seen many attempts to analyze how Donald Trump was able to convince so many people of things that were either fundamentally untrue or functionally impossible. This book digs deeper and gets it right. The Trump phenomenon is not merely about a person, but a political environment, nurtured over many years and exploited by savvy operatives able to fuel the rhetoric of personal grievance. It also aptly addresses the more.ENDORSEMENT BY- Rick Wilson, is a Republican political strategist, writer, and media consultant. He is a regular contributor to CNN, MSNBC, and FOX, and he is a columnist for The Daily Beast and The Washington Post."Faking the News is a valuable addition to the growing field of analysis of both Trump's conscious and intuitive use of rhetoric, propaganda, and branding in America's profoundly disrupted politics. These essays are full of revelatory 'So that's why he does that!' moments, and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in Trump's language and his dark but brilliant manipulation of the American body politic."

Just finished reading but *not* by any means finished THINKING about this well assembled collection of essays. This is not a collection of diatribes or rants but, rather, of well considered analyses of rhetorical practice in the Age of Trump written by scholars of the field. Nor is it a ‘jargony’ text written by scholars for scholars; it is written to be read by anyone motivated to understand the current discursive landscape of American politics. As I have told my friends: buy a copy and READ it!! It is worth the time (and a little money) spent.

Great read. Beyond the great cover and concept, the book provides a series of insights into the rhetoric coming out of today’s White House. Love him or hate him, Trump’s use of language and the media is unlike anything we’ve ever seen, and lessons can be learned from examining the language that delivers his often changing messages.

Excellent, timely, clear, and accessible. These essays break down Trump's rhetoric, explaining how and why it works, and pointing to its potential and limitations. The whole collection is great, but Michael J. Steudeman's and Ryan Skinnell's chapter stand out. I'll definitely be recommending this to colleagues and using it in my writing & rhetoric courses.

This book is really helpful for understanding why people like Trump and think he's doing a good job.

Faking the News contains a series of insightful and accessible chapters on the rhetorical practices of Trump. Each contributor sheds light on the nuanced versions of truth coming out of the Trump White House. A great but frustrating read.

Dr. Ryan Skinnell never ceases to amaze me! The perspicacious professor pellucidly and perspicuously writes about #45 and the means of persuasion, which he uses/used to advance his agenda. Skinnell's book is the quintessence of rhetorical excellence!!!

A thoughtful guide to navigating the Trump era with language and logic. Timely and persuasive.

Good book. Explains how persuasion works in clear prose.
