I have most of Dave's books on fly fishing and fly tying, and like all the others this is excellent. It's well-written and has a lot of great color pictures. It doesn't go into much detail about fishing various spots on the river, but that's offset by the interesting and informative geological descriptions of the river and its origins and the descriptions of some of his adventures on the river. The most intriguing (and a bit scary) adventure was his solo drift from Livingston to Laurel during an early snowfall and severe cold snap in October. This is described in a chapter he aptly titled "The Blue Iceberg.". A must read.
I have been fishing the Yellowstone for seven years, inside and outside the Park. This book captures what the fishing on this magnificent river is all about. The pictures are very neat (not top-notch, yet they are taken by a high-level amateur). It has been created by people who are willing to share their knowledge of the river and the awe we all feel when we are lucky enough to be on the water. Pictures are taken during all seasons. The book shows the environment, as well as the angling itself.
