Review

#1 on the Wall Street Journal's list of "best books in 2018 on aging well"―"A book that grabs us by the shoulders, turns us toward an important issue, and grips us until we truly see and understand."―Kirkus Reviews"'The old and young are built for each other.' On this simple but profound statement, Marc Freedman builds an inspiring and timely manifesto for a better future. As heartwarming as Tuesdays with Morrie, yet deeply researched and enlivened by enough real-life examples to persuade the toughest skeptic, How to Live Forever is both an intergenerational love letter and a practical manual for change. The era of age apartheid is ending, and Marc Freedman's beacon lights the way ahead."―Jonathan Rauch, author, The Happiness Curve, and Contributing Editor, The Atlantic"To be happy, what do we need? Strong bonds with others and a sense of meaning. In How to Live Forever, Marc Freedman brilliantly explores how we can foster happier, healthier, more productive lives by connecting the older and younger generations. Freedman illuminates why and how the generations are tremendous untapped resources for each other-and why, as we face a more-old-than-young world, creating this connection matters more than ever."―Gretchen Rubin, author of New York Times bestseller The Happiness Project"In this powerful and persuasive work, Marc Freedman shows that the generation gap is far from inevitable. In its place, he offers a compelling vision for the future of intergenerational relations: an alliance of talents that brings joy, empowerment, and abundance to both youth and old age. How to Live Forever is a heartfelt and heartwarming book that will spark purpose in the young and hope in their elders."―Daniel H. Pink, author of When and Drive"Beautifully written and enormously inspiring, How to Live Forever profoundly changes the conversation about long life and rewrites the generational compact. Read it and be changed."―Laura Carstensen, Professor of Psychology, Stanford University, and author, A Long Bright Future"Marc Freedman's How To Live Forever is a wise and joyful gift to readers of every age."―Gloria Steinem"Marc Freedman is one of the wisest thought leaders in the aging and longevity world. With this book, he has crafted a masterpiece, written with deep humanity and insight. This is a soulful rallying cry for intergenerational collaboration like we've never seen before. I finished this book brimming with optimism about our future."―Chip Conley, author of Wisdom@Work and Strategic Advisor, Airbnb"In How to Live Forever, Marc Freedman draws upon his lifetime of knowledge and experience as one of the nation's foremost social entrepreneurs and his skill as a masterful storyteller to demonstrate that the only way to live forever is to live together. Arguing that our role as older people is not to try to be young, but to be there for those who actually are, he makes a compelling case that inspires us to connect people of different generations."―Jo Ann Jenkins, CEO of AARP and author of Disrupt Aging"Twenty years ago I read Marc Freedman's groundbreaking book Prime Time and it changed my life...inspiring and guiding me as I embarked on my encore career. With How to Live Forever, Freedman has done it again. This extraordinary, insightful, and deeply moving book will touch your heart and remain on your mind long after you put it down. It might even change your life!"―Sherry Lansing, former Chairman and CEO, Paramount Pictures, and Founder and CEO, The Sherry Lansing Foundation

I hadn't realized how recent, pervasive and harmful age segregation is for our society. Reading this book helped me understand this, and see that it is possible to restore the more natural state of generations living together. Marc Freedman describes great examples from around the country that can -- and I hope will -- be replicated.

I just got my copy of Marc Freedman’s book on “How to Live Forever”. I read half of it at one sitting and could not put it down. As I read the book, it seemed to me that Marc was capturing my life’s story. He seemed to be speaking to me personally. I live each day with purpose by filling it with meaning by helping the female and minority children through building schools in remote villages of India. “How to Live Forever” is a must read for people going through mid-life crises and others who are groping for meaning as they age. Bravo to Marc for capturing and providing an antidote to loneliness the dis-ease of the 21st century.Dr. Ashok Kumar MalhotraPresident, Ninash Foundation, Promoting Literacy Among Female and Minority Children of IndiaAuthor of :Grandpa Chopra’s Wisdom StoriesWisdom of Tao Te ChingIntroduction to Yoga PhilosophyTranscreation of Bhagavad Gita and others

This book had me both laughing out loud and welling up with tears. I loved the hopeful message, and all of the stories that made clear how mutual the benefits are when generations connect. It's a must-read this holiday season, and a great gift for someone of any age ...although I'll probably give the extra copies I purchased to people over 50. Highly recommend.

“How to Live Forever, The Enduring Power of Connecting the Generations” is insightful and commanding. The research and observations that Marc Freedman brought to this work are a strong foundation for the wisdom and guidance he spreads throughout the pages. The is a unique work while it leverages his previous writings and experiences. Freedman guides the reader to view aging as filled with opportunities to not only build a legacy but to gift new and ongoing life to generations yet to come. This book is filled with hope and inspiration. Once done, the reader feels compelled to ask in the spirit of JFK, what can I do for and with future generations. The book is well written and effortless to read and understand. The challenge comes after we read it.

When I read Marc Freedman's "The Big Shift" a few years ago while I was still working full-time, I was inspired to seek an encore career. I then took several courses in teacher education at a local community college, and I qualified myself as a substitute teacher, but I never started teaching because I didn't think that I wanted the responsibility for a classroom. After reading "How to Live Forever: The Enduring Power of Connecting the Generations," I am now inspired to actually get into the classroom.

This book is for all ages, a kind of bonding book club all in of itself. This will be a life changer for so many, if we just take that first step - as individuals we have so much power with an amazing gift to be experienced in return. The synergy that will follow has the absolute potential to make the best change in our society that you and I have ever seen. This is the "mark" we can make while also creating a better life for us individually, and isn't it time for you and I to engage with this constructive power? I completely agree that this effort's success will be with each individual's decision to step forward.

Mark continues to be America's leading thought leader on intergenerational loving, giving and collaboration capped by a special tribute to his father.

This book provides key fact-based evidence that the trend of self-segregating yourself in our society based on age is having a negative impact on all our generations, not just the seniors. The author counters the argument and perception that is seen in the media of what the "golden years" should look like. It provides a roadmap of having a meaningful post-career life by impacting our younger generation.
