The book is organized by key, offering the most common closed chords used in each key. If you just want to find a specific chord, you have to thumb through to find a key that the chord is used in. Also, the chords for each key are spread across three pages, so you can't simply lay the book flat open to the key you are working in and see all the options. Instead, you have to flip back and forth. Organizing it by key might have had some advantages if all the chords had been placed on just two facing pages, so they all might be seen with the boom laid open in front of you. Furthermore, the book offers mostly four finger closed chord options. For beginners, it probably would make more sense to present some of the simpler open chords alongside the closed ones, offering them a good place to start, while also showing them where they might go as their dexterity improves.

I was disappointed in the organization of the book. For instance, in the key of D (and Bm), it lists fingerings for vairiants of D (7, sus, etc) and E and G and A and Bm spread over three pages. I would rather have the basic four (1, 4, 5, 6m) up front followed by the variants and 2-major. On the plus side, it shows multiple ways of fingering some of the more common chords. Also, this is much better viewed on a tablet or real Kindle than a smart phone but that's not the book's problem.

I’ve been a guitar player for some years now, and on a whim I purchased a mandolin as a means of augmenting my versatility. I only needed to learn the chord positions on this instrument as accompaniment for songs I already knew on the guitar, for the time being, as I am also a vocalist and was not concerned with playing any melodies or scales. None the less, every other chord is, of course, also included. This small volume is primarily a reference book with chord diagrams consisting of chord name, fretboard location, and finger position dots illustrated for each chord. Included in the introduction are the note names of each of the strings when played in their respective "open positions”, plus tuning information and adequate enough procedural instruction that even novices should be able to put to use in teaching themselves the accompaniment to well known favorites. I strongly recommend purchasing a song-book of familiar tunes with mandolin chord diagrams included, however, as an aid in pursuing such an endeavor.

I like this booklet because it gives you different positions for different chords. You can use it along side a songbook and learn the new chords that make a song easier to play. You can also teach yourself by using these booklets. When you learn chords you can play songs.

It's arranged by song key, not the chords, so you have to flip around a lot to find things. It's a personal preference, but I'd like to have all the "A" options grouped. Since I'm new to Mandolin, I often just need a chord and it's variations, not all the chords in the key. The diagrams are great, I'd just like a different organization.

I knew what I was buying so it is great to get another copy it will help when the internet is down and I want to learn a new chord.

This has all of the chords you'll need. It is easy to read and use. Since it's small it fits inside the case of your instrument so it's always there when you need it. If you play by ear then this is really all that you would ever need. It has no music theory, just chords. It's a great reference.

This book is set up so that all the chords for a given key are grouped. Of course that means that many chords are repeated for various keys. This format makes it easy to work on a song in a particular key and find the required chords without flipping through the entire book. I'm still working on getting my fingers to cooperate on several chords but have learned to play several tunes on my mandolin. If you are starting out with your mandolin this should be helpful.

About the Author

Marc Freedman is CEO and president of Encore.org, an organization he founded in 1998. Freedman is a member of the Wall Street Journal's "Experts" group, a frequent commentator in the national media, and the author of four previous books. Originator of the encore career idea linking second acts to the greater good, Freedman cofounded Experience Corps to mobilize people over fifty to improve the school performance and prospects of low-income elementary school students in twenty-two US cities. He also spearheaded the creation of the Encore Fellowships program, a one-year fellowship helping individuals translate their midlife skills into second acts focused on social impact, and the Purpose Prize, an annual $100,000 prize for social entrepreneurs in the second half of life. First of all, I am neither a Republican or a Democrat. I have voted on the qualifications of the candidates since I was first eligible. Many years ago…many. I have voted in every single election except for this last Presidential one. And, many by absentee ballot as I served 20 years in the United States Navy and am now a proud retired USN Chief Petty Officer. Notice I said except for this last election….I absolutely could not vote for either candidate.Why? My main objection to voting for Clinton was her handling of the emails. My career in the US Navy involved handling classified material on a daily basis. And, a Top Secret clearance for the last 6 of my 20 years. And, these clearances were not given out freely. From receipt of the message to the destruction, every single step…every one was recorded and upon destruction, two witnesses were required. I had more reservations about voting for her but the mishandling of the emails was the major one.As for voting for Trump, I just could not force myself to vote for him.. They don't like exposure, accountability or responsibility in their tactics.The Transportation Security Agency, the Secret Service, Whistle Blowers, the Veterans Administration problems including Phoenix, AZ, Fast and Furious scandal, illegal immigration (including catch and release), the Benghazi attack and many more topics are covered.The Freedom of Information Act (1966) was detailed in depth including the 9 exceptions to this act. Requests doubled during the O'Bama Presidency and many requests were denied. It also appears that this is one area that needs to be reformed. And, along with that comes much more transparency in our government.One thing I have never understood is the reason that it is so difficult to fire government employees. I did work for 3 agencies after I retired from the US Navy and found it mind boggling that it was nearly impossible. If one was fired, the Merit Protection Board stepped in to assist. The entire system of Federal Employees should be overhauled, in my opinion. And, the number of Federal employees not paying their taxes continues to increase...Bottom line is that despite the checks and balances in the Congress, they are not being utilized. Our faith in government is gone and without faith, our nation is suffering.After reading this, my eyes have been opened in many areas. Do I believe a Deep State exists in the US? Yes, I do. The author provides many, many examples which are backed up with statistics. Time to do major overhaul and put more transparency back in our government.Wanted to edit by adding a few sentences...My AHA moment was when the author went with LCOL Wood (Utah National Guard) on 12 SEP 2012 to visit Benghazi. Jeremy Freeman was present and representing FOIA. He was denied access to a meeting due to his security clearance not being high enough. Who did he call to try and gain access in the middle of the night? Cheryl Mills, Hillary Clinton's assistant. . Didn't work as access was still denied. What was this about? It was explained in 'The Deep State'.Highly recommended.Note:Nearly the last 20 % on my Kindle were acknowledgements and an Index. It was stated that the 'index does not match the edition from which it was created'. So, use the search tools for your E book instead.

This very well written, easy to read for all, book is a composition of several stories of what should be routine successful United States Congressional oversight over the last 10 years that has allow an administration to defaecate on the rule of law. In my six years in “The Swamp” I did not meet with Mr. Chaffetz but I appreciated his speaking, now writing style, and the wit that comes across in this publication.I ordered this book last month to hear Jason Chaffetz's, Former Congressman and Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, story regarding the state of affairs of congress during the Obama Regime. To paraphrase the author the Deep State exists to control information available to the American public. They dislike “Sunshine which is the best disinfectant”, accountability or responsibility in their tactics which we are seeing exposed every night for the last 2 years!The book confirms my impressions and experience of the existence of the deep state and the governmental groups that continue to take advantage of the American taxpayer. Chaffetz provides examples where the Deep State continues to impede progress and efficiency within the US Government. He presents congress as a “Paper Tiger” with impotent and absent oversight due to a growing government. The Obama Administration had its way with congress for eight long years probably due to the poor leadership at the top, John Boehner and Paul Ryan, which allowed and undermined the authority of congress to provide oversight (US Code 192).Chapter eight regarding Benghazi Terrorist Attack which the president, secretary of state, and the UN ambassador outright lied is very disturbing. It is a prime example of how government agencies block and distort the truth from the American peoples' representatives. If today with almost 350 million inhabitants in the country and a government three times the size of the 1960's The Deep State can successfully manipulate the events of the last ten years and the present resist movement on the Trump agenda; with a smaller government The Deep State could have conspired to assassinate our 35th president.In several places in the book I noticed the author's animus with government employees earning more that the legislators which was my experience and exposed to during my times in and out of government. The guide in the last chapter on how to fight the Deep State is laid out with sound logic and common sense. If congress is too small as the author states to deal with this government expansion, then allow an outside agent as Judicial Watch (who seems to be more effective) perform the oversight under contract! Thank God for Jason Chaffetz for writing this must read for every taxpayer.

The revelations about Jeff Sessions are amazing. This is like a real life crime thriller. Love it! So well written. Leaves you gobsmacked. Good on Jason Chaffetz for writing this.

I see all the people that don't have a verified purchase is trying hard to deface this book. As the saying goes haters will be haters, but that doesn't change the facts. This book is written by someone that was in the lions den, and it shows in this book, with great facts. Believe what you want but the deep state is real, and is trying hard to take down President Trump. But as I always say, in the end the truth comes out, and it prevails against all evil. And in this case, the deep state is the evil.

When we got up this morning we kept going until we were finished.What a great read! This isn't a conspiracy theory, this what Jason Chaffetz experienced. Particularly fascinating was the State Department's interference when he flew to Lybia to investigate the Ben Ghazi attack.If you want to find out about the corruption, waste and aft-covering by government employees who are in it for themselves, read this book.

The book was missing several chapters: it only had 2 essays by Benjamin and it was supposed to have 10 or so, and was only 109 pages as opposed to about 280. Specifically, it did not have Work and Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction.

This was a pretty excellent (and challenging) survey of Benjamin's work, with included pieces mostly concerning storytelling and particular literary figures (e.g., Kafka, Proust, Leskov). I'd say this collection is particularly helpful in that it proceeds, as I read it, thematically. The editor's introductory piece isn't really worth reading--mostly just a reflection on Benjamin's "continuing importance", pretty standard (though I will say his criticisms of Benjamin, like his reluctance to give in to Scholem, amount more to complaints than critiques). In contrast, I found Arendt's essay incredibly enlightening. She relates not only much of the content of Benjamin's thought, but offers insight into his personal life (e.g., his experience in the Parisian Arcades, his collective impulses) that assists greatly in understanding the experience motivating some of Benjamin's analyses (e.g., of the crowd, of the collector, of the character of the flaneur). In some retellings, as in his chronic financial/employment troubles or the unfortunate coincidences leading to his suicide, a sense of melancholy or "bad luck" is almost palpable, particularly given Arendt's close relation to Benjamin.As for the essays themselves, anyone who has read Benjamin is aware of how challenging the prose (if we may call it that) is. As Arendt notes in her introduction, Benjamin is a poetic thinker, and tends both to assume a fair amount of foreknowledge and employ sophisticated (and often extended) figurative devices, e.g., simile, to relate his points. Contrast this with the geometric prose of Spinoza and other modern philosophers, with their numbered axioms, definitions, propositions, etc. In his essay on Proust, for example, Benjamin likens the weight of scent in memory to the weight of the fisherman's net by which he gauges his catch, and sentences to the physical labor required to haul it up. There is also some evidence of his on-again-off-again Marxist tendencies (which embarrassing fact, combined with his ambivalence between this commitment and Zionism, is acknowledged in the introduction to the collection), as in his late essay on art modified by mechanical reproduction, plus the more obvious shoehorning of concepts like "class struggle" and "proletarianization". Nevertheless, this is a fantastic collection which ought to attract both old and new readers of Benjamin--I know I'll be buying Reflections, Illuminations' spiritual companion, and at least some of his standalone work.

This edition of Illuminations is incomplete. It only contains three essays ("Unpacking My Library," "Task of the Translator" and "The Storyteller"), none of which are Benjamin's most well-known. Spend the extra five bucks to get the Schocken Books edition: Illuminations: Essays and Reflections.

Walter Benjamin put everything he knew into everything he wrote. It all resonates. This makes for challenging reading - at times, it seems like what he is saying is simply too much at a tilt with everything one thinks one knows to seem comprehensible. Then, suddenly, one tilts, and the extraordinary reach, eloquence and power of this man's reading hits home. Benjamin is difficult in the only legitimate way - because what he is trying to say can be said no other way.

Good selection of Walter B's between-the-wars brilliant insights. In clear translations. Highly recommended to those interested in memory, Proust, and insights into a troubled political and social environment

I ordered this version, but instead received the version with the orange and white cover. Be careful!

The translation by Harry Zohn must be acknowledged as a masterpiece. Fitting in a work that contains Benjamin's essay "The task of the translator", I wonder if our author wrote in German as beautifully as has been rendered into English. If so Walter Benjamin must be counted as a great literary mind besides one of the finest intellectuals. The introduction by Hanna Arendt crowns the jewel of a book that speaks to everyman and for all times.

A good view of a past that never became present. Benjamin's self-martyrdom might be more significant than his writings since people generally tend to prefer melodrama to sociology these days. Unless you have to read this for class, I recommend you read more contemporary theorists.

Jason Siu was the former West Coast Editor of Modified Magazine. While working with Modified Magazine he wrote and photographed over 200 different articles. He is currently the co-owner and editor-in-chief of the Internet automotive publication, Tunerzine.com. His first project car was a 1999 Honda Civic Si that sported one of the first built LS/VTEC engines ever. He currently owns a 1994 Acura Integra project car that can be seen in Modified Magazine. His previous work experience within the industry includes being employed at Titan Motorsports and Enjuku Racing in Florida. He currently resides in sunny Southern California.

This book is a must have if you're rebuilding any Honda engine in general. Even though it focuses on the B-Series, it has helpful info for rebuilding pretty much any engine. The photos are great, the procedures are easy to follow, and the suggestions definately come from an author that knows what he is talking about. I would highly recommend, as the author does, that you get the service manual for your specific vehicle too for torque specs., the engine removal procedure, as a cross reference, etc. I rebuild an F22B2 recently, with this book and the service manual as guides.

Used this book while I rebuilt my b16 engine. If you have never rebuilt and engine or you have before, this book is excellent! It provides concise instructions with very detailed color pictures. I had no idea what I was doing when I started, but the engine is back together and it runs! Perfect if you like getting your hands dirty and are a DIY type person.

it shows you how to rebuild the engine, but isnt really a replacement for a shop manual..... which also shows you how to rebuild an engine. If youve never done it then maybe buy this book, otherwise the manual is really enough.

It is not a very good DIY book. It is okay I guess? It's more of a coach to help you more than a true DIY that can help you do a basic stock rebuild.

The book was purchased for eudcation and reference purpose. It has seen surpassed that intention. For anyone with a Honda B16 engine who would either like to perform a rebuild and or just understand the internals (positioning and general purpose) this book in for you.

Instructions are clear. Does require you know a little mechanic info. Of course right? otherwise don't even think about tearing an engine apart.

Good read, pics are great to have on hand.I hobby as a mechanic and have been working on motors for years. Got this book just to see what it was about and thing the author did a good job with the details in this.

this is one of my hubby's hobby we bought a honda civic 1995, he was fixing at it, he was wanting to make it his project, but he's been so busy with school, hope he gets the time.
